What is domestic abuse and violence?
Domestic abuse is an incident or repeating incidents of a person’s controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence, over others. Domestic violence and abuse can happen to both men and women.
Control over others
Abuse can rip a family apart, can cause untold long-term damage and can result in death.
It can include stalking, harassment, rape, assault, genital mutilation, forced marriage and honour-based abuse as well as trafficking.
